“The change of product basket by Indian handicraft exporters with focus on new designs and eco friendly products as per the growing global need has greatly helped in boosting the handicraft exports and attracting new buyers”, said Mr Rakesh Kumar.
The handicrafts exports declined by 48.35% to about $1.8 billion in the previous financial 2008-09 and now the overall trend has been arrested to a great extent with decrease in the US $ term to 4.86% till January 2010 to $1254.08 million, but recovered by 2.03% in rupee term at Rs. 5,015.92 crore.
The next fair IHGF Autumn 2010 is scheduled to be held from October 15 to 18, 2010 at the same venue. EPCH, in coordination with the Jodhpur Handicrafts Exporters Association, would also organise the Indian Furniture & Accessories Show (IFAS) from March 13 to 15 2010, at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The fair, held twice a year in February and October known as IHGF Spring and IHGF Autumn, is organized by EPCH, a nodal export promotion body for handicrafts set up under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
