Engineering SEZ converted into Textile Park

Karnataka Large and Medium Industries Minister, Mr Murugesh R Nirani recently informed the legislature assembly that, an engineering sector Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Shimoga has been converted into a Textile Park.

This was purportedly done as no investor came forward to set up a unit in the engineering SEZ. The entire land and related infrastructure has been handed over to Bangalore based, Shahi Export Pvt Ltd.

Fibre2fashion spoke to a senior official of Shahi Export, who confirmed the new development. Shahi Exports will set up facilities related to the textile value-chain with an investment of Rs 5.33 billion.

Shahi Export is a leading Indian garment exporter with manufacturing units located in Delhi, Bangalore, Tirupur and Salem. They have a capacity to manufacture three million pieces of high-quality wovens & knits per month.
