Union Textile Minister of Kerala, Panabaaka Lakshmi, is to inaugurate a textile centre at Taliparamba in Kannur district on April 16, which is promoted by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA).
This is a project sponsored by the Central government and the Kannur centre will not only work towards motivating the entrepreneurs, but will even impart them training and provide management assistance.
Textile units are proposed to be established on an area of 94.80 acres of the total area of 124 acres. It has been planned to segregate the whole centre into six pockets, of which one will be the wet processing area, which will include the common effluent treatment plant, dyeing and winding plant, bonded warehouse, water harvesting pond and a hazardous waste treatment plant.
For setting up the weaving units, another plot measuring 33.76 acres has been reserved. Also it is planned to set up a mini-apparel park in an area of 9.70 acres which will also house a crèche and dispensary, over and above the standard design factory.
The centre is being visualized to be an all-inclusive textile industries park under the KINFRA International Apparel Park, a fully owned subsidiary of KINFRA.
