Textile fabric processors and job-workers of Surat, Gujarat, after a month-long standoff, have finally arrived at a consensus over the controversial issue of increase in job rates of processing fabrics.
During a joint meeting on Tuesday, April 27, members of South Gujarat Textile Processor's Association (SGTPA) and Federation of Surat Textile Trader's Association (FOSTTA) arrived at a decision that the matter under consideration should be dealt on a one-on-one basis, i.e., between the job-worker and the processing unit.
After a thorough discussion it was decided that a hike in job rates by ten percent should be a matter of negotiation between the textile fabric processors and job-workers.
While, either side has decided to not impose the hike in job rates on any of their members; at the same time, if a buyer can afford to purchase material at the increased rates from a seller then the decision has to be left on him. It was also decided that, neither FOSTTA nor SGPTA will intervene in the same.
