About Textile Engineering Department–
The Textile Engineering Department is one of the oldest department in the country established in 1890 under the name of 'Rangshala'and during that time artisan courses were offered in Bleaching Dyeing and Sizing. Gradually the department has developed to full fledged Engineering courses. The first step was offering the Certificate course in Weaving (1897) and the Diploma in Weaving (1907).
In 1949, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was established and different faculties were made. The department came under the 'Faculty of Technology & Engineering'. In 1953, the First Degree Course in Textile Engineering and then in 1954 Textile Technology was started. Further in 1964, Master Degree in Textile Engineering was started then in 1944 another Master Degree in Man Made Textiles was started. Besides these there is also facility for Doctoral Degree.
About Anchor Institute-
The Department of Textile Engineenng in the M S University of Baroda is one of the oldest and the most reputed universities. Ever since its inception in the year 1953 it has produced professionals of high caliber, whose immense contribution in the realm of textile is unparalleled. Recently the department has updated another feather to its cap by having been selected as Anchor Institute of Industries Commissionarate Govt of Gujarat. The department has been entrusted with the responsibility of grooming, skilled man power at different levels by imparting various technical trainings suited to specific requirement of Textile sector and allied industries.
Since Gujarat has become hub for Industries and Govt of Gujarat is encouraging domestic and foreign investments through its program called Vibrant Gujarat. The Govt is also aware that the success of any industry depends on trained quality manpower. For achieving its objective government has constituted Anchor institutes under the scheme for "Technical competence and Enhancement of skilled manpower” in various sectors of industries and textile is one of them.
