Silk handloom weavers from Coimbatore have interlaced a marvellous new saree, encompassing 1,330 Tamil Thirukurals or couplets from sacred scriptures, rolled on it in silk.

The Thirukurals, which allegedly relate back to the fourth century A.D. were composed by renowned poet Thiruvalluvar.

Balasubramanian, a silk handloom weaver, said that, they have slotted all the facets of the sacred Thirukkural in the saree, measuring 6 1/4 metres in length and 48 inches in breadth and weighing one and a half kilograms.

The glorious saree, which is priced at Rs 1,00,000 that is $2,134 has been a centre of attraction and is drawing considerable number of visitors, since it has been showcased.

According to a visitor, at the outlet, where the saree is on display, it was astonishing to see the saree, specially prepared for displaying at the World Classical Tamil Conference. Also, she praised the weavers for the excellent artwork done by them and quoted the saree to be an unusual piece of art. The intricate artwork can by no means be expressed through words and that; they bow down to those who prepared this saree.

It took almost four months to prepare the saree, which is to be displayed at the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010, scheduled to take place in Coimbatore during June 23 to 27.
