Formal wear firms launch casual wear line

With young professionals opting for smart casuals as Friday dressing to work, conventional formal wear brands are forced to squeeze their product portfolio, so as to include casual and semi-formals.

As per chief executive officer of a formal wear apparel firm, the industry is rapidly moving towards casual wear and therefore, they too have launched a sports collection line under the wings of its formal brand.

Industry experts are of the opinion that, officer wear is no longer considered as formal, in most workplaces. In addition, youngsters are opting for unconventional professions wherein formal wear is not the dress code.

With new lines of profession are entering new office rules, wherein weight-age is given more to skills than dressing style, informed a human resource executive.

According to a retail analyst, while formal wear accounts for two-thirds of the nation's garment market, which is worth Rs 350 billion, and is increasing at a yearly rate of 10-15 percent, the casual wear segment is growing faster with sturdy double-digit growth.

Therefore, owing to rising demand in casual wear, the conventional formal wear brands have squeezed in to their product portfolio, a new line of casual wear.

With the launch of their new line, casual wear under their existing brand name, a traditional formal wear company informs that, the semi-formal and casual segments are rapidly moving in the upwards pathway.

Supports, chief executive officer of a multi-brand lifestyle retail chain, that casual wear sales are growing over formal wear sales at an extremely fast rate in both men and women segments. More so, although it has been increasing since the last two years, within the last six months, the casual wear section has been depicting sturdy rise, as conventional brands have commenced launching their casual weal line.
