Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Textiles, has announced that the National Textile Corporation (NTC) intends to earn from the immense scope for technical textiles in the country. With technical textiles, Maran is basically pointing at the special sub-segments such as diapers, sanitary napkins, masks, disposable gowns and bedspreads.

During the inaugural function of four NTC mills in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, Maran also informed that, the entry in to technical textiles is likely to help improve the corporation's turnover and profitability.

Currently, NTC employs 10,000 people directly and plans to employ about 4,000 people more, post establishment of the four integrated mills, including a technical textile plant. NTC will also aim at branding and retailing of fabrics, informed Maran.

In the past five years, the corporation has undergone a massive altercation, from being a defunct firm to a profit-making one, and the same has been attained in a professional and visible manner.

Owing to budgetary funds not being allocated during the 2009-10 year, corporation had to carve out ways of raising the much required funds.
