Shaoxing- Home to biggest textile market in Asia

Founded in the 1980s, China Textile City (CTC), the largest textile market in Asia, is located in Shaoxing County in Zhejiang province. Today the city has grown into one of the world's major textile transaction centers, featuring an international trading zone and a raw material market.
The textiles industry is considered as a pillar industry by the locals and the county government. The area encompassed by the textile city is growing with each passing year.
CTC areas were expanded from 1.1 million sq mtrs five years ago to more than 3.2 million sq mtrs.
More than 19,000 shop owners are selling more than 40,000 different kinds of fabrics to 100,000 buyers every day and around half of all the textile producers in the country are conducting transactions in the market, along with the 800 foreign business offices that have opened offices in the city.
The trader's service around 4,700 permanent overseas buyers and products are exported to over 200 countries and regions. According to experts, deals for around 25 percent of man-made fibres sold in worldwide markets annualy are made here and overall trade value has touched 48.77 billion Yuan in the period, January to September 2010.
Exports from the textile city stood at US $1.3 billion in the first eight months of 2010, a rise of 38.7 percent from a year ago. Four CTC websites provide information among which is the China Textile Material Trade Online Market, which has been able to tote up a trade value amounting to 10 billion Yuan since it began operations in early 2009.
