GTZ to boost prospects of Bangladesh silk industry

Lacking international quality standards, silk manufacturers from Bangladesh failed to win German clientele despite huge potential, conveyed officials of German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) said yesterday.
Weijers Paul, GTZ program coordinator of program titled 'Progress' at a press chat said that Bangladeshi silk products were rated below India or China's and there was enough room for improvement. He said use of silk products in Germany households was increasing day by day.
Paul conveyed that Germany wants to provide technical and financial assistance to Bangladesh silk industry through this progamme, which employed 97,000 people. He added that silk products could contirbute by way of earning valuable foreign exchange for the country.
'Progress' lauched by GTZ will offer financial and technical support while according training, disseminating information on market access and customers' demands to the entrepreneurs, he concluded.
