The report released by Cotton Research Association under Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences shows that Chinese cotton production in 2010-11 fell 14.6 percent year on year to 5.70 million tons, due to yield damage caused by abnormal weather conditions.
The figure released by the association is far below the estimated 6.65 million tons made by China Cotton Association. The report adds that cotton acreage in 2010 was 5.05 million hectares, unchanged from 2009.
Per hectare yield of raw cotton in 2010-11 stood at 3.36 tons, representing a decrease of 14.6 percent over the same period of the previous year.
