Indian minister for textiles, consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and commerce and industry Piyush Goyal presented the prestigious CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2024 held at Bharat Tex 2024 in New Delhi. The awards encompassed various categories recognising excellence in sustainability practices.

These accolades celebrated initiatives ranging from social responsibility and eco-friendly endeavours to innovative material management and women entrepreneurs' contributions to sustainability and social impact.

Speaking at the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2024, minister Goyal underscored the imperative for the textile sector to concentrate on international markets to enhance competitiveness. He hailed the Bharat Tex 2024 event as a beacon of the industry's potential to lead globally, expressing optimism that collaborative efforts and a thorough understanding of the value chain would propel the textile industry to become a cornerstone of the nation's GDP, the ministry of textiles said in a press release.

Commending CITI for their unwavering support and dedication, Goyal highlighted the organisation's pivotal role in fostering sectoral growth and generating employment opportunities for the nation's youth. He lauded CITI's capacity to cater not only to domestic needs but also to global demands, extending gratitude to CITI officials for their guidance in nurturing the textile industry's expansion.

Chairman of CITI, Rakesh Mehra, highlighted the pivotal role of sustainable initiatives in the textile industry in his welcome address. Minister of state for textiles and railways, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, delivered a keynote speech, emphasising the sector's commitment to sustainable practices. Concluding the event, deputy chairman of CITI, Ashwin Chandran, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their collective efforts in advancing sustainable practices within the textile industry, marking a significant step towards a more environmentally conscious and socially responsible future.
