Cotton farmers in Punjab have rejected a Rs 640 crore compensation announced by state government for those growers whose crop was damaged by whitefly pest attack, saying it was ‘meagre’.

They have also criticized the revenue department’s survey of the crop damage and described it as an eyewash. The whitefly pest attack destroyed cotton crop in over 8 lakh acres of land across 9 districts in the state. (SH)
