Set up textile research centre: Bangla parliamentary panel
The parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of textiles and jute in Bangladesh recently suggested setting up a textile research institute to ensure adequate development in the sector at its second meeting. The committee also recommended holding discussions with stakeholders and providing optimum services to make the Textile Act 2018 effective.

The meeting was presided over by committee chairman Mirza Azam. Members of the committee include textiles and jute minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.

A committee has been formed by the secretary of the ministry to expedite land acquisition process for setting up the Sheikh Hasina Tant Palli (first phase) project in Shibchar sub-district of Madaripur and the Sheikh Hasina Textile College, Bangla media reported citing a press release from the parliament secretariat.

Both projects will be implemented under supervision of the Bangladesh Army with suggestions of the standing committee. (DS)
