The Tiruppur Exporters' Association (TEA) has requested the central government to address exports related issues including GST implications. In a memorandum submitted to the union minister of commerce, Suresh Prabhu, the association has urged for immediate address, else there are chances that the exports market may be shifted to the competing countries.

"The minister was positive and has assured to provide the essential support needed to the exporting community for its sustenance. He also mentioned about the releasing of the package soon that will bail out the exporting units from the crisis," said TEA president Raja M Shanmugham in a press release.

With over one lakh migrated workers associated with the knitwear sector of Tirupur, Shanmugham has also requested the Union minister of state for labour and employment Santosh Gangwar for construction of ESI hospital with the essential facilities. Tamil Nadu knitwear contributes 60 per cent of the country's knitwear production. The association has also asked for disbursement of the pending amount to the new employees under Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Protsahan Yojana. (RR)
