Indian commerce and industry and textiles minister Piyush Goyal recently urged the textile industry to focus on speed, skill and scale and get into innovative partnerships. He called for developing 100 Indian textile machinery champions with worldwide recognition. He was interacting with textile machinery manufacturers in a recent video conference.

Goyal urged textile machinery manufacturers to get out of the command-and-control mindset and work through ‘plug-and-play’ to make the textile sector vibrant in name and sprit, according to an official release.

India is not averse to imports, but it must reduce import dependence on textile machinery through concerted efforts, he said

The Heavy Industries Capital Goods Scheme is a pilot scheme designed to support the industry to modernise technologies, he added.
