  • The UK's Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has initiated a review of the 58.9 per cent anti-dumping duty on Chinese chamois leather to evaluate its fit with the UK's economic and trade goals.
  • The investigation spans transactions from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, aiming to determine the measure's necessity against unfair competition.
The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) of the UK has launched a detailed transition review of the anti-dumping duty on chamois leather imported from China. This review aims to assess the continuing relevance and effectiveness of the existing 58.9 per cent duty, initially established by the European Union, in meeting the UK's current economic and trade requirements.

The TRA's investigation will cover transactions from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, focusing on determining whether the anti-dumping measure remains necessary to protect the domestic industry from unfair competition. Additionally, the review will examine the period from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2023, to assess any injury or potential injury to the UK market caused by the imports in question, TRA said in a press release.

Chamois leather, renowned for its absorbent qualities and minimal abrasive properties, is primarily used for drying surfaces, especially in automotive care. Crafted from the top split of sheepskin, lambskin, or other animal skins, this product has been a staple in European production since the 10th century.

Businesses that could be impacted by the continuation or alteration of this duty are encouraged to register their interest with the Trade Remedies Service by the deadline of March 6.
