US ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy recently said up to 30 per cent of Cambodia’s textile exports are to the US market despite the COVID-19 crisis. Such large-scale export of textiles is also a testament to the cooperation between both sides, despite some other problematic issues that take time to sort out with mutual discussions.

Both sides have expressed pride in the progress of the cooperation and agreed to further promote these activities, as well as work together to improve the implementation of freedoms and professional organisations.

On the issue of child labour, the Cambodian labour inspectorate is working to continue the education campaign to inform the handicraft enterprises and guardians to clearly understand the laws and regulations that define the use of children in any kind of work and under what conditions, while also applying the law to enterprises, minister of labour and vocational training Ith Sam Heng was quoted as saying by Cambodian media reports.

The Better Factories Project will continue to be encouraged among Cambodian factory owners and enterprises in the manufacturing of travel products and bags to obtain certificates of origin, and the ministry will arrange for inspections, the minister added.
