The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) recently inaugurated a tertiary treatment plant (TTP) with 35 million litres per day (MLD) capacity at Bamroli for supplying treated water to about 68 textile dyeing and printing mills in the Sachin industrial area managed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC). Work is going on for three more TTPs at Kosad, Bhesan and Asarma.
Surat was the first in the state to set up a TTP of 40 MLD capacity at Bamroli in 2014. SMC executive engineer EH Pathan told an Indian newspaper that the corporation aims at treating and supplying 550 MLD water to industrial units in Pandesara, Sachin, Palsana, Hazira and nearby areas at the cost of ₹500 crore by 2021.
