Mudappathi Balakrishnan launched a trial herbal handloom fabric-processing unit. The unit was kicked off at Pallikkulam on Sunday.
Mudappathi Balakrishnan has acquired a patent for producing herbal cloth dyed in colours made from herbal plants.
Balakrishnan's undertaking had huge significance at the time when country needs to go back to nature, said A.P. Abdullakkutty, MP, at the opening ceremony of the unit.
He added that Shankarsinh Vaghela, Union Textile Minister had shown interest when he came to know about the innovation of Balakrishnan.
Commercial prospects of the production of herbal cloth were a great challenge, Mr. Abdullakkutty said.
