FTA implementation bet Malaysia & Pakistan

- textile and clothing (95.3 per cent of total EHP value);
- agricultural products (4.7 per cent);
- jewellery.

- Interim Rules of Origin (ROO) will be applied to the products covered under the EHP. A 40 per cent local content rule will be applied on the EHP products, while product specific rules will be applied to textile and clothing, and jewellery. The EHP ROO will be replaced by a new set of rules under the FTA.

- World Trade Organisation (WTO) provisions governing safeguard actions, emergency measures and other remedies, including anti-dumping and countervailing measures shall be applicable to the products under the EHP and it shall be superseded and replaced by the relevant disciplines to be negotiated under the FTA. Disputes concerning the implementation of the EHP Agreement shall be settled amicably by mutual consultation.

- Malaysia and Pakistan will continue negotiations to conclude the FTA by mid-2006

- In 2004 , total trade between Malaysia and Pakistan amounted to RM2,870.9 million. Malaysia's exports to Pakistan were valued at RM2,664.9 million while imports from Pakistan amounted to RM206.0 million. Total trade during January-October 2005 amounted to RM2,552.7 million with exports valued at RM2,374.7 million and imports RM178.0 million.

- Malaysia's major exports to Pakistan are:
- palm oil and palm oil products (57.8 per cent of total exports);
- carboxylic and derivatives (9.3 per cent);
- margarine and shortening (3.4 per cent);
