IMPORTS OF 800,000 TONS WHEAT FROM AWB, AGRICO APPROVED
On Wednesday, the government approved the import of 800,000 tons of wheat from the Australian Wheat Board and Switzerland's Agrico. This approval is part of the 3 million tons tender floated on May 8.

Official sources report that price negotiations are still on with the two companies, as the price at which wheat will be imported will vary from port to port and the unloading rate at different ports.

The AWB bid to supply wheat at $210 per ton on cost and freight (C&F) basis, and Agrico Trade offered wheat at $199 per ton on C&F basis. The government may float new tenders to import wheat.
