World weaving machinery shipments remain strong, says ITMF

Texturing Machinery
Shipments of single heater drawtexturing spindles (for polyamid filament) totalled 13,200 (-9%) in 2004. After a record year in 2003 with 216,000 spindles shipments recorded, investments in double heater spindles (for polyester filament) fell back to the levels of previous years at 134,000 (-38%). Asia dominated the markets for both single and double heater spindles with China alone absorbing 69% and 71%, respectively.
Weaving Machinery
The weaving machinery market in 2004 was stronger compared to the previous year. Global shipments of shuttle-less looms increased by 5% to 65,500. Of all shuttle-less looms shipped 88% went to Asia, with China alone absorbing 48,000 or 74%. Compared to 2003 China's investments rose by 9%, India's - from a much lower basis though - by 240% to a total of 2,100 and Italy's by 28% to 1,650. However, shipments of shuttle-less looms to Turkey dropped considerably (-44%) totalling 2,500 as did those to Pakistan's which fell by 20% to 1,230. Of all shuttle-less looms shipped rapier/projectile looms accounted for 46% (+2% compared to 2003), air-jet looms for 25% (-8%), and water-jet looms for 29% (+6%).
Circular & Flat Knitting
In 2004 global shipments of large circular knitting machines totalled 9,400, a reduction of 6.8%. Asia and the Americas expanded their market shares to 69% and 11%, respectively (+4% and +3%), while Europe's share fell to 17% (-7%). Of all circular knitting machines delless looms shipped 88% went to Asia, with China alone absorbing 48,000 or 74%.
