The Japanese government has donated Yen 50 million (CHF 572,727) to finance 2006 technical assistance and training activities organized by the WTO.
“Japan's contribution will enhance developing and least-developed countries' participation in the Doha Round negotiations. I thank the Japanese government for its generosity. The WTO Technical Assistance and Training Plan enables the Secretariat to assist developing countries in exercising their rights as Members, and supports domestic efforts to mainstream trade into national plans for economic development and poverty reduction”, said WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy.
This latest donation brings Japan's total contribution to the DDAGTF up to CHF 5.3 million. Japan is at the moment the fifth biggest voluntary contributor.
World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world's trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business.
