ITMF says global fabric output remains stagnant in QI

Global fabric production remained almost unchanged on its record level.

A strong increase could be observed in South America, whereas fabric output in Asia and Europe fell slightly. The level of world yarn production did not change.

Again, while South America could increase its yarn output, Asia and Europe experienced a small decline. Both yarn and fabric inventories were lower on world level.

Especially in South America and Europe yarn stocks were reduced considerably, while Asian yarn inventory moved up. After its continuous rise in the last few years, aggregate fabric inventory fell for the first time, especially in South America.

Global yarn and fabric orders rose strongly in South America but fell significantly in Europe.

The First Quarter of 2005 showed hardly any changes in the output level of global yarn production (+0.3%).

Increases in South America (+1.4%) were compensated by smaller decreases in Asia (-0.5%) and Europe (-0.6). In comparison to the First Quarter of 2004 world yarn production was still up by 1.0%. Year-on-year gains in Asia (+3.5%) were offset by output contractions in Europe (-5.6%), South America (-2.0%), and North America (-1.6%).

World fabric production remains at its record level during the First Quarter. While Asia reported a reduction of 1.2%, Europe experienced a small (+0.2%) and South America a strong increase (+7.0%).

On an annual basis, global fabric output was 23.2% higher, with Asia being the driving force (+53.6%). European and North American production grew also, though much slower (+2.9% and +0.5%, respectively), whereas South America's output was 8.0% below last year's level.
