The Swiss Textile Federation has conferred for what is now the seventh time its “Swiss Textiles Award” for fashion design at a glamorous and glittering event.

The prize was awarded at the event Stella Contemporary Fashion Awards on 17th November 2006 in the Maag Music & Eventhall in Zurich.

The prize, which comes with financial support worth Euro 100,000, is now one of the world's most important fashion awards. The "Swiss Textiles Award" is also being represented by a new symbol, a glass cube.

The winner Bruno Peters beamed with pride as he received the glass cube filled with fabrics from Création Baumann AG.

This year, six promising young designers have made it into the final for the "Swiss Textiles Award". As part of the event Stella Contemporary Fashion Awards, they presented their new collections on the catwalk. The designer Bruno Pieters completely convinced the international panel of judges this year.

His current 2007 collection is inspired by the French artist Yves Klein, who is known for his intense, monochrome pictures. Slimline silhouettes with a high waist are combined with corset belts, giving jupes and dresses a modified cylindrical shape.

One of the collection's key features are structured weaves and materials such as dyed linen, coated cotton, silk, silk jersey and crêpe in simple shades of white and blue.

The Belgian Bruno Pieters (aged 28) graduated from the Royal Academy of Antwerp with distinction in 1999 and went on to work for several years as an assistant to Martin Margietta and Christian Lacroix Haute Couture.
