The European Commission wants to give the EU's trade protection rules a sensitive face-lift just two months after it burdened China and Vietnam with extra tariffs for dumping shoes on the EU market.
The EU's "trade defence instruments" - aimed at protecting European industry from unfair competition - need an update as the global economy has changed since the set of rules was last looked at in 1996, EU trade commissioner Peter Mandelson said on Wednesday (6 December).
