Khadi and Village Industries Commission approves 5 clusters

HYDERABAD:

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has approved five clusters to provide employment to 500 artisans in State under its newly introduced Scheme, Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI).

KVIC, State KVIB and State Government have approved the formation of clusters. Investment of Rs1 crore would be made in each cluster with KVIC contributing Rs75 lakhs as subsidy and balance by implementing agency, sources informed.

The five clusters which got approval are Cotton Khadi in Srikakulam and Sircilla, Wood Craft Training, Chittoor, Agarbati Manufacturing in Hindupur and Roofing Tiles in Vizianagaram district.

Besides the above, fourteen more clusters are in pipeline which include Cotton Khadi in Ilapuram (Guntur dist.) and Huzurabad (Karimnagar), Woodcarving Craft (Srikalahasti), Manufacturing in Chintapalli (Nalgonda), Terrakota pottery in Chittoor, Khadi in Tuni (East Godavari)and Bamboo Products in Saluru (Vizianagaram).

Khadi and village industries in the State had made products worth over Rs766 crores and achieved sales of over Rs885 crores and earned profits worth Rs375 crores.

It has also provided employment to 5.56 lakh persons.
