2006 saw the introduction of the first ICA Arbitrator's training course, together with qualifying examinations. There are no formal classroom sessions; preparation for the examination simply requires private study of the course material, ICA Bylaws and the relevant provisions of the Arbitration Act 1996.
The first examinations were held in Liverpool during the Annual Conference in October 2006. To date, some 36 people have been successful in the examinations. Further examinations will be held at various places in Europe and in other suitable locations around the world over the next year, to allow as many people as possible the opportunity to attempt the examination locally without the need for long-distance travel.
The ICA is committed to expanding its number of international arbitrators whilst ensuring that quality is maintained. Only those who have successful passed the examination will be allowed to accept appointments as ICA Technical Arbitrators or Appeal Committee members after 1st January 2008. Examinations are to be held in Bremer Baumwollbörse on 4 September 2007 at 14.00 hours.
