Mr George Yeo, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Singapore, in his address said that Singapore shares much of India's history and has common links in administrative, legal and other systems.
“Echoes of India find reflection in Singapore,” he stated, adding that the first seminar on India's reforms by its leaders was held in Singapore.
Singapore would like to see India in ASEAN, in the East Asian Summit and as a permanent member of the United Nations, he stressed. “India has great ability to help the world manage global diversity,” pointed out the Minister.
Earlier, while welcoming the distinguished guests, Mr Nandan M Nilekani, Co-Chairman of the Board, Infosys Technologies Ltd, said that the Incredible India@60 campaign is being held in New York at the time of the UN General Assembly by the CII and the Ministry of Tourism to showcase India's diversity, democracy and young vibrant population.
It is a milestone in public private partnership as CII has partnered with eight ministries of Government of India and eight US organizations for the event.
Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, President CII, and Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, emphasized that a new, confident and resurgent India seeks a place at the high table of nations. It wants to “engage with the world, and serve the world in a responsible and competent manner”, he concluded.
