The Inter-American Development Bank's Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) will hold a news conference on Tuesday, November 6 in Miami, Fla. to present the results of a new study of remittances to Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

MIF Manager Donald F. Terry and pollster Sergio Bendixen, who has carried out surveys for the IDB in several Latin American and Caribbean countries, will speak at the news conference to be held at 8 AM in the Hibiscus Isle Room of the Intercontinental Hotel (100 Chopin Plaza), venue of the 41st FELABAN Annual Assembly.

Terry and Bendixen will present new estimates of the amounts of money sent home by Central American migrants in 2007. They will also discuss the results of the survey which looks at aspects such as the country of origin of the remittances, methods of money transfer most commonly used, spending priorities, and participation in the formal financial system.

The MIF, an autonomous fund administered by the IDB, has been studying remittances since the year 2000 to gauge the economic impact of these flows stemming from Latin American and Caribbean immigrants in North America, Europe and Asia.
