AEPC issues circulars on service tax & SCOPE-Shipping & Air meets

Apparel Export & Promotion Council of India (AEPC) has put up two circulars; one under reference AEPC:REG:EP:SERVICE TAX:2005, dtated September 5, 2005 addressed to all its members.

The circular refers to top incidence of service tax on export of garments and is issued by Vijay Mathur stating:

There are a number of services,whose list can be viewed by clicking here, which are utilized by the garment exporters. On these services, service tax is payable. If summed up, the incidence of these service tax is not insignificant. Therefore, there is a great need for the garment exporters to ask relief in this regard so that the transaction cost, which is already high, does not go up further.

It is, therefore, desirable that the quantum of service tax on each service is quantified so that AEPC gets an overall view in respect of each service.

You are requested to send details to AEPC to the extent possible for you, so that AEPC is able to represent the matter on behalf of all the garment exporters.

Second circular is issued by Ms Sneh Lata Sharma under the reference AEPC:REG:EP:GEN:2005 dtd. September 5, 2005 addressed to AEPC members which states:

Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, vide its letter no. 7/5/2005-Infra.I dated 1st September, 2005 have intimated about the holding of 38th Session of SCOPE-Shipping and 46th Session of SCOPE-Air meetings tentatively to be held on 6th & 7th October, 2005 at Chennai under the Chairmanship of Addl. Secretary, Department of Commerce.
