ITMA 2011 - ACIMIT's position

Cematex has announced Barcelona as the site of the upcoming ITMA 2011. ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machine Manufacturers, is opposed to the reasons behind this choice, deemed of a purely political nature.
ACIMIT and VDMA, the German Association of Textile Machine Manufacturers, for their part voted for Fiera Milano.
ITMA 2011 will start from September 22 – 29, 2011 at the new Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue in Barcelona, Spain.
• Exhibiting manufacturers from Italy and Germany represent fully 70% of the total surface area in square metres of exhibition space from Cematex countries, and 54% of the total surface area in square metres for the entire event. By themselves, Italy and Germany account for 54%; the remaining 46% is subdivided among 36 other countries.
• ACIMIT is therefore opposed to the adoption of a method which does not take into account the will of the majority of exhibitors.
Paolo Banfi, President of ACIMIT, commented the announcement as follows: ”We'll firstly discuss the issue with our own members, and within the sphere of Cematex, so as to draw due consequences. For ITMA 2003, in order to avoid further damaging ITMA, ACIMIT then spent all of its credibility with its Italian exhibitors in support of their participation, but if nothing changes for ITMA 2011, it will not be able to do so once again.”
