IDB opens media pre-registration for Annual Meeting

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announced the opening of on-line media pre-registration for the Annual Meeting of its Board of Governors, the main forum for discussion of political, economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 49th and 23rd Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), respectively, will take place this year in Miami, Florida, April 4-8.

The Boards of Governors are the highest authorities of the IDB and the IIC. Their members are finance or economic affairs ministers, presidents of central banks or other high-ranking officials from the IDB 47 member countries. IDB Annual Meetings are held in a different city in a member country every year.

The meeting in Miami, a vibrant hub of business activity between the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean, will attract thousands of participants, including high-ranking government officials, bankers, business and civil society leaders, academics and journalists.

The meeting will feature a series of seminars on top economic issues, such as the pending macroeconomic challenges for the region, innovations in sustainable energy and climate change, growth and social inclusion, transforming the financial system to reach the poor, philanthropic investment and youth as agents of change.

The IDB is the oldest and largest regional development bank and the main source of multilateral development financing in Latin America and the Caribbean. The IDB Group approved new operations totaling more than $9.6 billion in 2007.
