Textile industry require apt IT solutions for overall growth

During the Vibrant Gujarat meet, State Government plans to lure international textile machinery manufacturers from countries like China, Taiwan and Korea to set up base in the state, so that it could minimize cost of production for the local players, by reducing their import duties and other expenditures.

This move of State Government is surely going to help local textile and apparel manufacturers to compete with their regional and international counter parts, who are well equipped with the latest technology.

In this regard, Chandan Chatterjee, General Manager – projects and technology at iNDEXTb told Fibre2fashion, “In certain segments of textiles like cotton spinning, India is well equipped and at par with any other competitors in the world. As such over 25 percent share of world cotton yarn market is supplied by India alone. Similarly ginning and pressing sector has been technologically upgraded substantially in the recent past. As a result best quality of processed cotton is being exported from India in specific from state like Gujarat. However except denim processing, lot many is yet to be done in the chemical processing sector.”

Divulging about the projection of investment in Information Technology received from the Textile & Apparel Manufacturers and Textile Machinery Industrialist, Mr Chatterjee stated, “Most of the new machineries and technologies in textile and apparel are embedded with various IT solutions to make the textile activities cost effective. Huge numbers of software like SAP or ERP solutions are being installed in almost every organized sector and 20 percent in case of unorganized textile activities. Therefore IT and IT enable services have a huge investment potential in the field of textiles during the coming years both for their survival and growth. Almost every machineries and technologies will seek for IT solutions along with their technology in the years to come.”
