Apparels slides while textile & other products turnover grows

In the first half this year, manufacturing turnover dropped by 9.4 percent, against same period in 2004, reports National Statistics Office of Malta.
It states that wearing apparel and clothes turnover slid from Lm61 million in 2002 to Lm41 million in 2004 however, textiles and textile products climbed Lm27 million up from Lm17 million.
Investments in manufacturing also registered decline of 22 percent in the first six months of the year while about 2,000 manufacturing joblosses during 2002 and 2004 were recorded.
The release said 20 factories shut down last year and so far this year.
