Bangalore will host India's biggest exhibition, Silken Splendours - 2005, as a part of celebrations of twentieth Congress of International Sericultural Commission (ISC).

This ten-day event begins next week from December 16, and will include display and sale of silk and silk blends. This artistic exposition will feature a collection of wares, silk fabrics, garment apparel, clothing, made ups and furnishings from different parts of the country.

A four-day Congress happens once every three years, and it is only for the second time that India is hosting the prestigious event that will begin from December 15, 2005.

Central Silk Board's CEO and Member-Secretary H Basker reported that as many as 250 representatives from 180 countries will be attending the Congress. Delegates will involve scientists, resource persons, NGOs, entrepreneurs, industrialists, silk exporters and traders and fashion manufacturers.

About 200 scientific papers on various aspects of sericulture would be presented at the Congress with special discussions on topics like host plants, silkworm rearing, pathology breeding, post-cocoon and by-products.

This event will help generate trade information and promote business and economic relations among silk producing countries.

ISC is the only inter-governmental organization with its headquarters at Lyon, France. It is a body of silk - producing countries fighting for the progress of sericulture and allied activities in its member countries.
