A delegation from Fibre2fashion, briefed a packed gathering of the most influential leaders of the Surat textile sector about the upcoming 'International Conference on Man-Made Fibre Textiles”, to be held on November 18-19 at the Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

Fibre2fashion briefed the members of Surat Textile Club (STC), who had gathered to celebrate the 65th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2011. STC as a mark of respect celebrates Independence Day every year, since the last 65 years.

The 850-member strong textile body was established way back in 1941 and is made up of the most influential members from the Surat textile sector.

The meeting began with the singing of the national anthem. This was followed by a briefing from Mr Jigar Shelat, National Sales Manager – Fibre2fashion about the 'International Conference on Man-Made Fibre Textiles'.

Mr Shelat informed the audience that the International Conference will be hosted by Fibre2fashion in association with the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) & Surat Art Silk Cloth Manufacturers Association (SASCMA).

He said, “Natural fibres will have their own limitations in terms of availability in future, hence it is important for people to know the developments and innovations in manmade fibre textiles”.

He informed that manmade fibre textiles are not discussed much in the Indian textile scenario and this conference will deliberate and discuss the recent developments and ways and means of taking the Indian manmade textile industry forward.

He added, “The Surat textile industry will receive prime focus at the Conference, as the textile hub accounts for 65 percent of manmade fiber textiles produced in India like polyester, viscose and nylon”.

Mr Rohit Mehta, the Chief Guest of the function, who is also the President - South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI), spoke next.

He said, “The members of the Surat textile industry should keep themselves abreast of the developments and innovations in the manmade textile fibre sector. The manmade fibre conference will provide an opportunity to keep oneself updated”.

He advised the leaders to not confine themselves to sarees and dress materials, but to also explore the emerging sector of technical textiles, which is going to boom in the future.
