'My vision of achievement is yet to unfold' - Deepak Chiripal

Deepak has been mentored by Mr Brijmohan Chiripal, his youngest uncle. Deepak reveals, “There is an untold understanding in the Chiripal family, that the new entrant in the business would be mentored by his uncle and not his father. I learnt a lot from my mentor and gives due credit to his uncle, from whom he learnt quick decision making, multi-tasking, etc.

“Sometimes the cost of making a wrong decision is less than the cost of taking a delayed decision. There is the cost of lost opportunities in delaying a decision. I am grateful to my elders that the second generation has been given full autonomy to take independent decisions”, he discloses.

He is very modest when quizzed about his achievements. He compares himself to a national athletic player competing with an Olympic champion. He says, “If an Olympic champion is not toting his achievements, how can a national level player sing his achievements. My vision of an achievement is yet to unfold and success is one's own perception”. He still does not think that, whatever he has achieved till date could be called outstanding.

He denies of any peer pressure in the Chiripal family, instead he says, “They are encouraged, but comparisons are never made, nor there are any pressures”.

The Chiripal family donates to charity organisations and extends help to the underprivileged. Recently, it also organised a blood donation camp. He is of the view that the Chiripal Group is yet to develop a structured Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan and create a long-term impact, but hopes that things will fall into place in the near future.

His mantra for success – “Life has a lot to teach, provided you are an avid learner. How successful you are is one's own perception”.

His parting words to others like him – the second and third generation of Indian textile leaders.

“Go Global. India has always been invaded and ruled by those from foreign countries. We need to change that now. The need of the hour is to invade global markets with our products. If we do not go global, someone from abroad will come and snatch your local market. Be offensive instead of being defensive. Today China is a global textile and clothing market leader; India can be the next one provided we have the attitude to capture global markets”.
