PetroChina to build 20 billion yuan ethylene plant

National Development and Reform Commission has given the go ahead to PetroChina Company Ltd to build an ethylene plant at Chengdu, said an unidentified company official.
The ethylene plant will be built at a cost of 20 billion yuan with a capacity of 800,000 tons a year. It will be completed by the year 2010.
PetroChina Co Ltd will have a stake of 51 percent in the new plant, whereas, Chengdu Petrochemical Co Ltd, of Chengdu's city government, will have the remaining 49 percent, according to the report.
The PetroChina official told that they have put up a proposal to build a refinery near the Chengdu plant, pending Government approval.
Petroleum products maker PetroChina is engaged into broad range of activities like refining, transportation, storage and marketing, including import and export, of crude oil and petroleum products.
