Sinopec's Methanol to Olefins project starts up

The 600,000 tons/year methanol to olefins (MTO) unit of Sinopec Zhongyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. produced on-spec polymer grade ethylene and propylene products on October 10, marking a successful commissioning at one stroke meeting HSE requirements.

This commissioned MTO unit is Sinopec's first demonstration unit with in-house intellectual property rights. Its smooth start-up and successful production indicate that the complete set of MTO technology independently developed by Sinopec has entered the industrialization stage and will provide technical support in the company's endeavour to diversify resources and develop coal chemical industry during the "Twelfth Five Year Plan" period.
