Mitsusbishi Chemicals Corporation (MCC), one of the world's top ten chemical companies, is planning to expand the purified terephthalic acid (PTA) production plant at Haldia, West Bengal.
Tokio Niikuni, Managing Executive Officer and COO, petrochemicals segment, stated that the expansion will involve an investment of Rs1665 crore, increasing the capacity to 800,000 tons.
The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2008 and then will become one of the major PTA production facility in the world.
MCC PTA India Corporation Private Ltd (MCPI) will be able to satisfy increasing Indian demand of polyester products such as fibre, PET bottle and films.
Yoshihiro Ikegawa, Managing Directior, MCPI, said that the expansion project was undertaken considering the surging Indian textile exports.
Niikuni said that technical personnel from MCPI had been appointed to impart training to the engineers of MCC's upcoming plant in China, which will create over 1000 jobs there.
