Gujarat State is making its mark in the global markets as UK-based leading retailer, Marks and Spencer (M&S)has introduced socks and t-shirts made from cotton produced in Bhuj, a major district of the Western India.
These products are available in all of its 36 outlets in the UK.
An agriculture service provider, Agrocel, will mediate between Bhuj cotton growers and M&S to ensure fair trade between the two.
M&S has assured that the farmers will be offered reasonable rates for their product.
Initially, cotton will be purchased from Bhuj, and eventually, Agrocel will export cotton from other regions of the state.
According to Sharna Jarvis, Programme Manager, Shell Foundation, such innovative collaboration with Agrocel has helped solve the problems concerning farmers.
