After attracting a total of 17,099 visitors during its 20 – 23 February edition, which represents an increase of 1.7 percent over March 2005 (16,820 visitors), French fabrics exhibition Texworld has again asserted its leading position among international textile trade fairs.

Europe provided the largest group of visitors (76 percent of the total) for the 689 Texworld exhibitors. The greatest increase was seen in buyers from the countries of Northern Europe, notably Norway (+16 percent) and Denmark (+20 percent) as well as EU newcomers and candidate states Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Serbia and Bulgaria.

There was also growth in the number of buyers from Germany and Italy (+3 percent each) despite the fact that other textile events were being held around the same time in these two countries.

In terms of visitors from France, where consumption of textiles and clothing is experiencing problems, and from the UK and Spain visitor numbers remained static or decreased slightly. By contrast, there was a significant drop in visitor numbers from Poland, the Czech Republic and Portugal. These countries are suffering particularly severely from the globalization of the textile industry.

There was a large contingent of visitors (10 percent) from the other side of the Atlantic with a consolidation of those from the USA and Canada whose numbers increased sharply at the corresponding session in 2005. Visitors from South America, particularly Brazil, grew overall by 20 percent.
