Womenswear maker AnnTaylor Stores Corporation announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended April 1st 2006 increased 10.5 percent to $212.5 million over total net sales of $192.3 million for the five-week period ended April 2nd 2005.
By division, net sales were $84.0 million for Ann Taylor compared to $79.4 million last year, and $105.1 million for Ann Taylor LOFT compared to $92.7 million last year.
Same-store sales for the period increased 0.8 percent compared to a same-store sales decrease of 1.7 percent for the same five-week period last year. By division, same-store sales for fiscal March 2006 were up 5.7 percent for Ann Taylor compared to a 3.3 percent decrease last year, and down 2.6 percent for Ann Taylor LOFT compared to being flat last year.
Kay Krill, President & CEO of Ann Taylor, stated, "The Ann Taylor division posted its eighth consecutive month of positive comparable store sales in March, driven by continued strength in dresses, skirts and suits."
"At LOFT, our spring offering with its emphasis on novelty and embellishment continued to resonate with our client, though we would have benefited from having more depth in certain fashion categories,” he added.
