“Roberts Wool Link aims to take Tasmania's high-quality wool to customers, not always as raw wool, but as yarn, fabric, and even garment solutions. This is a different method of developing new markets that is bringing results.”
"To achieve its goals of increasing demand for Tasmanian wool in Japan and North America, the Roberts Wool Link program will use a managed pool system in order to deliver certainty of supply to its key customers."
“The wool pool will enable Roberts and its newly appointed pool manager, Lempriere Australia, the opportunity to enter into supply contracts with companies prepared to support the “Tasmanian Brand” with certainty of supply."
“The wool pool will also provide an equitable way of sharing the premiums amongst Roberts' wool grower clients,” Mr Hampton said. He said wool-growers needed improved returns to be encouraged to continue to grow wool.
“We are targeting a significant premium over spot prices and are confident that we can deliver.” “The wool pool is a voluntary scheme and we are recommending to our clients that they commit a proportion of their clip to the pool and sell the balance using the auction system or internet-based Wool Trade system,” Mr Hampton said.
“We also expect that the direct link with brand companies and retailers will lead to an improved flow of information to wool growers.”
Mr Hampton said information from customers will enable growers to lift profitability by better aligning production techniques with end-user requirements, and allow the elimination of unnecessary costs.
Tasmania is a significant producer of superior quality wool for principally overseas markets.
Tasmania based Agribusiness Company Roberts market the majority of the Tasmanian wool clip, either through its broking business or jointly owned exporting arm.
