Investing in world scale PET at Pernambuco province in Brazil, Italy based M & G Group has announced making PTA feedstock for the polymer.
Scheduled to go onstream in early 2008, the new Brazilian plant employing latest Invista technology will help company boost its overall production capacity to 750,000tpa.
About 50 percent output of the plant will be utlized by the new 450,000 tpa PET plant currently under construction with the rest, catering to other South American demand or for exports.
Chief Executive Marco Ghisolfi of Polymers Business Unit said the investment will “fill the void left by decades of under investment in the country's polyester industry which forced Brazil to make ever increasing and resource draining imports”.
Next year end, Brazil's PET capacity will grow to 700,000 tpa, almost double the current domestic demand, turning the country into a net exporter.
