The Engineering division of The Linde Group in a consortium with Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has received a turn key lump sum contract for one of the largest ethane crackers in the world from Borouge, the leading provider of innovative plastic solutions. Borouge is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis.
The steam cracker with an ethylene capacity of approximately 1.5 million tonnes per year is based on ethane feedstock and will be the heart of a petrochemical complex, located in Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates, producing polyethylene and polypropylene for export.
"Linde has been associated with the petrochemical development in the Emirates from the start", says Dr Aldo Belloni, member of the Executive Board of Linde AG. "The first phase of the Borouge investment has been an unqualified success, thus paving the way for us being awarded also this second, even more ambitious project.”
“Hydrocarbons steam-cracking for ethylene production is one of the processing arts which Linde Engineering is today mastering at the very leading level and on a global basis, together with oxygen and hydrogen manufacturing, as well as LNG. Our technology portfolio is unmatched and generates considerable revenue synergies with our industrial and medical gases activities."
This success in one of the most prestigious projects in the Middle East is another demonstration of Linde's leading position as a technology and EPC contractor for crackers worldwide. The combination of Linde's expertise as ethylene technology contractor and CCC's outstanding reputation and position as a construction company in the Gulf region are the key success factors for this award.
