Saurer Textile Division order intake up in 2006

Saurer Management AG reported that increased order intake and high order backlog – expansion program in line with plan. In 2006, Saurer booked orders worth of EUR 2 030m. This is 39% above the previous year's value of EUR 1 464m. Sales of EUR 1 896m were 21% above the previous year's value. Both divisions are developing positively. At the end of the year, the order backlog in the textile division was EUR 586m, the highest level ever reached?

In the Textile division, the market for ring spinning machines was consistently strong, and from the second quarter onwards the rotor and filament spinning market also enjoyed a clear revival. In particular, the Asian markets with China and India in the fore, as well as Turkey, are in good shape.

The increased order intake (+35%) was not reflected as expected in sales (+11%). The generally longer throughput times for complete plants as well as shortages in the supply of steel and components for filament plants, plus delays in the specification and financing of rotor spinning plants, have resulted in sales clearly below the midyear expectations.

These orders can now be additionally fulfilled in the first half of 2007. The high order backlog at the beginning of the year, the sustained strength of the main textile markets with the announced continuation of government support for investments in India and Turkey, as well as the increasing effect of Saurer's growth programs indicate that a further increase in sales can be expected in 2007.
