Third largest retailer METRO Group sales division has opened its first outlet in Moscow.
The first Russian Real hypermarket opened in Moscow. The company follows the highly successful engagement of Metro Cash & Carry wholesaling in Russia, both sales divisions of the METRO Group. It is therefore a further step in the world's third-largest retail and wholesale company's ongoing and consistent expansion in Eastern Europe.
The METRO Group started doing business in the region back in 1994 and today is active with its sales divisions in almost every Eastern European country. It is by far the biggest retailer in Eastern Europe. Russia is the fourth country where Real has operations, including Germany, Poland and Turkey. It also plans expansion to Romania.
The Moscow store will offer its customers more than 35,000 different articles, about half of it from the food sector. The assortment will be formed to fully satisfy the needs of the local customers, especially in the locally produced merchandise. In total some 80 percent of the items will come from Russian suppliers. The customer will find all items of everyday use at small prices, ranging from food via electrical appliances all the way to clothing, following the principle of a “one-stop-shopping”.
At the press-conference dedicated to the opening the General Manager of Real Russia, Mr. Thorsten Vogt, said: "This is a great day for us. It is the starting point for our further expansion in Russia, one of the world's most important markets of the future. This project will benefit our customers – we cut prices offering the highest quality and service, and I am sure this will make a difference on the Russian market."
